A total of 16 amazing volunteers (including 8 enthusiastic students from the Duke of Edinburgh programme) went to Kohinga / Bonnie Mary in the Kaweka's to remove wildings. We found a few small seedlings, but mostly medium to large sized specimens of (mainly) Pinus contorta which we pulled, cut and pasted or drilled and filled. A record total of 25 amazing volunteers (including Jo Ritchie and her husband Chris) went to The Comet in the Kaweka's to remove wildings. We found small, medium and large sized seedlings of (mainly) Pinus contorta which we pulled or cut and pasted. We found a few larger sized specimens which were mainly around the end of the road / toilet area, the tussock tops and edges of the Kanuka forests were hiding the smaller ones. A total of 8 volunteers went to the Kaweka's to remove wildings at The Lakes. We found multiple small sized seedlings of (mainly) Pinus contorta which we pulled or cut and pasted. There were only a few larger sized specimens which had been hiding from us previously, which felt great - real progress here at The Lakes. We had a perfect day for our mahi - a bit cold to start with which motivated us to get moving, then it warmed up and stayed calm for the rest of the day. Our wilding warriors...
