Kaweka Lakes - January 24th 2026

A total of 11 volunteers were at The Lakes going over areas we have been managing since the beginning. It is always surprising how many new seedlings there are - they just keep coming. And there are always a few that somehow missed the previous efforts which is why we keep needing to go back on a regular basis! Without this effort, The Lakes area would be inundated with maturing wilding conifers which would then become seed sources for further spread.

Members of our wonderful team pulled, snipped and cut (and pasted) 2,458 pines.

Sporting some our new Free Stuff, kindly supplied by the National Wilding Conifer Control Programme our volunteers enjoyed another awesome day out helping to make a difference.

Looking south across Lake Rototuna towards where we started. This view would have been quite different if we hadn't been putting in the mahi and removing wilding conifers over the past few years.
